In 2013, I got a phone call from my father that changed everything. What I found when I arrived at his house told me more than the call did. Over the next year, I helped coordinate his medical care, his recovery, his home, and eventually the conversation about what kind of support he actually needed — even when he wasn’t ready to have it.
I was doing all of that while raising three young daughters at home — my oldest was 11, and my twins had just turned three.
